Robogals Founder Marita Cheng wins Young Australian of the Year Award!

Congratulations to the gorgeous Marita Cheng, founder of Robogals for winning the Young Australian of the Year Award!! What an amazing achievement, just shows how good Robogals is and the difference it's making world wide.

17-11 End of Semester

End of semester is coming up, but we still have loads of things happening for Robogals!

We have been invited to attend a Women in Leadership breakfast next week, which will feature some activities and talks that will focus on 'branding' yourself, and working on your strengths so you can be the best that you can be! Attending will also be the Deputy Head of Women in Engineering for Rio Tinto, so it will be amazing to be able to talk to her and see what her thoughts on issue are. If you are interested in attending this event, we'd love you to come along with us! All the info to register can be found here. This is the flyer:

There will also be an event happening soon that our university, UWA is organising. They are bringing some year 11 and 12 girls in to show them about engineering and science within UWA, and have approached us to get involved with some activities! It's absolutely great that the university is acknowledging us, and it will be a great chance to promote women in engineering, and Robogals.

Even though we have been working so hard, we do take the time rest and relax. The other weekend we went to a local 'chocolate and churros' cafe, where around 13 of our members attended and we celebrated what a great year Robogals Perth has had. It was great to see everybody before the break and before exams, and it was also really good to see some of our newest volunteers! Thanks again to everyone who came down!

Sausage Sizzle Oct 2011

Raising funds for Robogals :)

Today we ran a sausage sizzle during the university common lunch hour. It was really successful! We sold over 100 sausages, and got to reach out to some possible new volunteers. It was good to chat to people who hadn't previously heard about Robogals, and the general consensus was definitely that more girls should be joining engineering! Many thanks to all the Robogals who came and helped out, and to all the hungry uni students that came and supported us :)

SINE 2011 (Seminar Inducting New Exectives)

What a weekend!

From Friday 23rd until Tuesday 27th of September, 38 female and 6 male students gathered at the University of Adelaide, South Australia, for the annual Robogals AU/NZ SINE conference. It's a big weekend where all the chapters within Australia and New Zealand come together to share and discuss all things Robogals, and more importantly, new executive committee members are brought up to speed with how Robogals works.

Perth Robogals plus Some from Melbourne and Wellington, NZ.

It was such a fantastic experience to be able to meet everybody from various chapters around the region. There is a big online network of Robogals, but most of us hadn't gotten the chance to meet face to face. There was so much to do in that weekend though! We all presented the year that had been for our chapter, so everyone could see what the other Robogals had been up to. Then there were team building exercises and representatives from GE teaching us how to be an effective team. Teach Australia taught us the different learning methods, and then we all individually worked on how we can be the best at our particular role.

Learning teamwork skills

But it most definitely was not all work! Amongst all this learning and team building, we still had to explore Adelaide :) Sunset boat cruises, karaoke, chinese banquets, Adelaide nightlife, 24hr pancake shops, movies, shopping, weekend markets, and many other things helped us to have the most jam-packed and fun weekend, and made us realise how much fun being on Robogals was!

Enjoying Adelaide

As the conference was coming to an end, they presented various awards for the regional chapters. All of our team must feel very proud of themselves, because Robogals WA (thats us!) won THREE awards at the chapter presentations: Best Marketing, Besst Communication, and Honorable mention for Biggest Impact award for '10/'11. And not to brag but we won the most awards out of all the chapters as well :D

Our three awards that we won!

So after lots of learning, laughing, and losing sleep, we all came back to Perth with very fond views of Adelaide. A big big thank you to the Robogals Adelaide chapter for having us at their beautiful university, and for working so hard to make this SINE so amazing. Robogals WA has obviously had a great last year, and this year is only going to get better! So now is the best time to GET INVOLVED!

All the SINE attendees.

It has been a while since our last update. We've had a lot going on this year which we will update you on soon. Some girls from the executive committee will be traveling to Adelaide later this month for this year's SINE Conference.

Stay tuned!
